WEEK 2
DAY 10 Monday 30 May 2005
Riccione
Breakfast at 0730 ready for the expected trip to San Marino at 10.30, then 11.45 and
finally we departed at 1200. That left most of the morning to look at the seaside
resort of Riccione. Plenty of shops with wonderful clothes and gifts, but with
prices geared to the wealthy European rather than those with Kiwi Dollars. The
view up and down the beach is one of sunbathing to the max - obviously they do
not have the UV levels we experience close to the South Pole. By late morning
the beach looks like a mass stranding of beached whales, bleaching in the sun.

San Marino
The bus trip to San Marino takes you inland then a steady climb up to the
mountain republic. It is a tourist mecca, the drawcard being the lack of taxes.
The town is full of shops selling perfume, jewellery and alcohol. None is
top-of-the-line, but it is relatively CHEAP! Like so many Italian cities, San
Marino is full of tourists and seems to exist mostly for the benefit of
tourists. (See the San Marino website
for more information...)
We walked the streets., peered into many shops and purchased various small objects.
After all, New Zealand is a long way off and everything has to fit into a suitcase
(or 2).
