22nd Battalion 2NZEF
"Vrai et Fort"
Photographs of training in Waiouru and then in Egypt and Italy
Douglas FROGGATT (437161) was a signaller in the 22nd Battalion. He was part of
the 8th Reinforcements that joined the Battalion in Egypt after the
fall of Rommel and took part in the rebuilding of the Battalion prior
to its transfer to Italy. Douglas took part in all the Battalion
actions from the Sangro to Cassino and beyond, but was severely wounded
in the legs during the night attack on the outskirts of Florence on 30
May 1944. After some time in hospitals in Italy he returned home on the
hospital ship.
These photos are from his album and record his early
days of training in Waiouru and Palmerston North and his recreation
time in Maadi and Italy.
